For 2027, Jumping Frames takes on ‘Copy Right Copy Left’ – a provocation on appropriation and creative referencing in movement and image. Choreographic gestures are passed down, borrowed and reassembled across bodies; footage is reconstructed from archives, existing materials are appropriated, and images are generated by AI. The festival asks: what happens when a gesture, an image, or a memory is copied, appropriated or reinterpreted? As machines become increasingly capable of mimicking and replicating the human body, what does endless reproduction mean for the body and for human experience? To copy is also to acknowledge lineage – tracing a gesture or image back to the works, artists and histories from which it emerges.
Jumping Frames invites new works that critically expand the paradigm of this hybrid intersection between performance and media, choreography and film. Through this international open call, we welcome artists to experiment with copying as a creative method, explore how technology can lead to reinvention, and question authorship and creative agency in the age of AI.
Selected works will be eligible for cash prizes.
